Type/Rate Type

The “Type” drop down will allow you to select a predefined Type for your Matter. In the DFEH system, the main Matter Type will always be “Complaint”, so be sure and select it.

The Rate Type will allow you to set a predefined Matter Rate Type (MRT) for all billable Events pertaining to the current Matter. In doing this, you can expedite your billing. This field will not be used, as Matters in the DFEH system are unbilled.

Sub-Type

The “Sub-type” Field will allow you to choose a specific Sub-Type for the Matter. For the DFEH system, these will be one of the following: CC54, Employment, Housing, Ralph, or Unruh. These sub-types will determine which fields are shown in the record; choosing one will bring up its own set of fields for data entry. Below, we will describe the fields that appear when "Employment" is selected, and their function.

Unruh Specific Fields

Selecting Unruh will cause the following fields to appear:

Discrimination Factors: A list of possible factors for discrmination will be displayed as checkboxes. Check all which apply to this complaint.

Date Of Incident: You can use the provided Date field to choose the last known date on which harmful actions occurred according to the complaint. For more information on how the Date field works, see “Navigating The System”.

Brief Summary: Enter a brief summary of the incident for non-economic loss, and include other incident dates if applicable.

Have Witnesses: Select "yes" or "no" from the drop down menu in regards to whether the Complainant has witnesses to the incident.

Economic Damage: If the Complainant suffered any economic damage as a result of the incident, indicate "Yes" with the drop-down menu. Otherwise, select "No".

Non-Economic Damage: If the Complainant suffered any economic damage as a result of the incident, indicate "Yes" with the drop-down menu. Otherwise, select "No".

Remedy Sought: If the Complainant is seeking a remedy should the investigation into this incident prove a violation, enter it in the provided memo field.

Interested in Mediation: If the Complainant is interested in mediation with the Respondant, select "yes" from the drop-down menu. The case will then be sent to the Mediation team. Otherwise, select "no".
