To-Do’s in HoudiniESQ are priority items that can be assigned for other Staff (or yourself) to complete. They can be viewed in the respective tab under the Matter window, in the To-Do dashboard, or the GTD (Getting Things Done) view. They can be filtered according to whether they’ve been assigned to you and/or completed, as well as by standard list view filters. With To-dos you can easily collaborate and delegate work that needs to be done.
First we’re going to go over creating a To-Do for your fellow Staff members. Click the Add (+) button at the bottom of the To-Do’s tab in the Matter.
This will bring up the To-Do creation window.
From here, we can denote whether the task has been completed, whether it’s private (viewable only by you) and whether we want to Notify the assignee of the To-Do. Choose a Staff member from the drop down box, and select the priority of the task, as well as when it is due. If you are entering the To-Do from the main Practice ribbon, there will also be a field for Matter; as we are entering it from the Matter itself, that information is assumed by Houdini.
As you can see here, I’ve entered a To-Do for creating this section of the documentation. Click Save once you’ve entered all relevant information. The user will hear a phone-type tone, and then they will see a blue checkmark next to their GTD view in the Practice ribbon.
For now, let’s review our recent To-Do item. Click the tab for To-do’s in the GTD and our reminder will show up. Double-click it and the To-Do will once again come up.
Promoting a To-Do to a Billable Event
Click the checkbox in the upper left hand corner to mark the To-Do as Done, which will let us transition the To-do into a billable event. Once we’ve checked Done, select the Task type, Task Rate if you wish to override the Matter rate, and enter your time and check whether it is billable. Then click Save. The To-do is now an Event related to the Matter.
