Import Wizard

Houdini can import all data in CSV format. All that is required is a CSV Map file. Currently Houdini ships with TimeMatters, ProLaw, Outlook, Clio, HighRise, and Google CSV Map files.

Introduction

We can create a custom map file which will allow you to import from any product. Send us a sample CSV file with 5-10 records from the product you would like to import. A map file is required for each record you would like to import so send us sample CSV files for matter or project, contacts, events, to-do's, notes etc. We will create the map files and simple instructions on how to install them. Then you will be able to import the data.

KNOWN ISSUE TimeMatters users. If you have a hard return in your memo fields Houdini won't import your data. If you can remove the hard return or exclude the memo field from the CSV then you will be able to import. We have addressed the issue and will make a update available on our website.

Create a CSV file - Time Matters

The steps are different for each product. Below is an example for what to do in Time Matters.

From Time Matters Export wizard

1. Select ASCII Comma Separated
2. Name your file after the table you are exporting e.g. contacts.csv or matters.csv (all lowercase)
3. Select include field names as first row
4. Select Core Names (IMPORTANT, you must use core names)
5. Select Add All
6. Export the data

IMPORTANT Houdini treats imported files as personal data therefore all data being imported will be assigned to the Staff member performing the import. If you would prefer that one individual do all your firms imports then we suggest that the HoudiniESQ admin perform the imports fro each Staff Member. The admin MUST LOGIN AS EACH HOUDINI STAFF MEMBER BEFORE PERFORMING A IMPORT so the data is assigned to the correct individual.

Open the Import Wizard

The Import Wizard can be found under the main menu (orange arrow)

Select the Product

Select Time Matters

Choose your Import option

Select Upload a CSV file and click [next]

Upload CSV file

1. Click [Add Files]
2. Click [Upload and Link]

Review CSV Sample

1. This is a drop down of all CSV files currently in Houdini. If you uploaded more than one CSV you will have to select the CSV you want to import. If you only uploaded one file then it will be selected for you.

2. Use the previous and next icons to preview a sample of the data in the CSV to be imported. Please note, Column order isn't important.

3. Click the [IMPORT] button

IMPORTANT Houdini only processes one CSV file at a time. If you uploaded several CSV files in bulk you will still have to perform the import for each.

Done

Houdini will perform the import. You can close the Import Wizard and go onto other things. Your data will begin to appear as it is imported. If you want to import several CSV files then wait for the success chime and progress bar to disappear and repeat the steps above for the other CSV files.
