Performing a Manual Upgrade

These are the instructions on how to perform a manual upgrade using the full install of HoudiniESQ. This information is provided to our CiC community. Although the steps are rather straight forward and easy we must warn you that if you do not backup your HoudiniESQ folder before proceeding you may lose your data. By following these steps you accept all responsibility for any data loss. If you are not a CiC, do not complain, bitch or gripe. These procedures are provided only as training material for our Certified independent Consultants.


Backup
Backup your entire HoudiniESQ folder first, no joke. Use a different name e.g. HoudiniESQ_May1st

Shutdown
Stop HoudiniESQ

Windows. From the Windows Start Menu locate the Houdini folder. RIGHT-CLICK Stop HoudiniESQ Service and select Run as Administrator

OSX|Linux. KIll the Java process called Houdini (It may be called Java in OSX) or you can use the catalina.sh script to stop Tomcat like so, sh catalina.sh stop. If you are on OSX you may not have permission so try this sudo sh catalina.sh stop. You will have to enter your OSX admin password.

Uninstall
Run the HoudiniESQ Uninstaller located in the original HoudiniESQ folder. DO NOT DELETE THE FOLDER. Houdini is a service NOT a program. You must use the uninstaller to completely remove it from your system.

Install Latest
HoudiniESQ Downloads
Install new version of HoudiniESQ. DO NOT LOGIN!! Clear the browser cache and close your browser. The Service will auto start and we will need to stop it.

Stop new service
Stop HoudiniESQ

Windows. From the Windows Start Menu locate the Houdini folder. RIGHT-CLICK Stop HoudiniESQ Service and select Run as Administrator

Copy Data
Copy the ext folder from webapps/houdini/esb located in the backup you just created (e.g. HoudiniESQ_May1st) and copy it into the same location of the newly installed instance of Houdini, OVERWIRITE

Copy the dbms folder from webapps/houdini/esb/config located in the backup you just created (e.g. HoudiniESQ_May1st) and copy it into the same location of the newly installed instance of Houdini, OVERWIRITE

Copy the users folder from webapps/houdini/esb/config located in the backup you just created (e.g. HoudiniESQ_May1st) and copy it into the same location of the newly installed instance of Houdini, OVERWIRITE

Clear Registration
Create a file named houdini.rereg and drop it into webapps/houdini/esb/config/keystores located in the newly installed instance of Houdini, OVERWIRITE IF IT EXIST, INGORE ANY OTHER FILES WITH SIMILAR NAMES.

Restart Service
Start HoudiniESQ

Login
Use Safari for Windows or IE to login using you original login information NOT the new login information you provided during the new install.

Get back to work!

If you have troubles, jiggle the cable, reboot at least 3 times, sacrifice a chicken, neil before your PC and beg for forgiveness or try whatever else you usually do when things inexplicably stop working, because you're on your own now. :D
