A COMPANY WITH INTEREST IN OUR SUCCESS

"$1,500 dollars for a additional seat just because we are on Windows 7.

That is what Amicus told us. We had to upgrade our server and purchase a maintenance plan just to add a new seat. We decided to make a move instead.

We didn't want to get into the situation we are in now with a company like Time Matters or Pro Law since their business models all seem to be the same. We have some Macs in our offices now and thought that a product that runs on WIndows and Macs would be a good idea. With the internet playing a bigger role in our practice every year we decided to look at new upcoming companies that provide SaaS software since they will provide us platform independence and web accessibility.

It has been several months now and we finally made our decision after trying Rocket Matter, Advologix PM and Clio. We thought what we needed was a SaaS product but after evaluating several we settled on Houdini. It feels more like a PMS, does far more then any of the others, it doesn't feel like a half baked Legal portal and its overall cost long term is really affordable.

After talking with a sales representative at Houdini we found that our needs really didn't justify the expense of SaaS because all our partners really wanted was web accessibility and the ability to run on Windows or Macintosh. Although all SaaS products provide these feature it is expensive when you factor in the seat cost per month per year, every year.

With Houdini Server we could save a bundle. 10 seats would have cost us $480 a month or $5,760 a year, every year on Clio, Rocket Matter and Houdini. With Advologix it would be nearly $1,000 a month. The sales rep said if we hosted the product ourselves it would cost us just $1,750 the first year and $960 a year after that including all upgrades.

Well we are happy to report that the transition was easy and uneventful. We have web access to our data, we can access the product on our Macs and Windows machines and we have the piece of mind knowing all our data is in our offices.

I think the Houdini folks really took the time to understand our needs and provide us with the most cost effective means to meet all our objectives. It is a wonderful product and we are happy with it.

I think overall the HoudiniESQ folks just get it."
